Called inconvenient breathing in Tibetan medicine, apnea is caused by functional failure of "Jinju rLong", paralysis of respiratory muscles and obstruction of breathing of breathing passage, manifesting epigastric and hypochondriac pain, abdominal distension or hidden qi and rough respiration. Which is a Critical condition, and can be divided into 5 kinds, viz. miscellaneous, stagnation, apnea, severe asthma and crescendos. For its treatment, there are systematic and concert methods described in classical works, including oily, therapy, emesis, fumigations and puncturing methods. However, what is described in Gyudzhi is consonant with those of modern medicine, including etiology such as disturbance of breathing center, tracheotomy. Furthermore, the multifarious therapies and clinical practicability and readily effectiveness are of significance.
