Ralhayongzongling Monastery

¡¡¡¡Ralhayongzongling Monastery is located at the foot of Mt. Yulhagyisang in Chonuma Township in Namling County, about 90 kilometers from the city of Xigaze (four kilometers north across the river from Dag Chaka). At an elevation of 3,750 meters, the monastery was first built in the seventh century during the rule of Songtsan Ganbo, and was destroyed during the reign of Lang Darma, King of Tibet, in the eighth century. In 1834, Master Dawa Gyaincain of the Ben Sect renovated the monastery with the agreement from the 10th Dalai Lama, the eighth Panchen Lama and the Prince Regent Dacha Dainbai Gongbo, and made it a significant monastery of the Ben Sect. There are five pagodas, in which are buried the Kainpos (abbots) and senior lamas. Inside the Master Hall are five pagodas, in one of which was buried Dawa Gyaincain. The God of Nambagyiwa of the Ben Sect, which is 12 meters high, is housed in the Lhazhangnamgyi Hall, while the God of Auspiciousness and others are enshrined in the Hall of God of Protecting Dharma. The Tripitaka Pavilion holds the scriptures of Gangyur and Dangyur written in gold powder ink. Lush and verdant trees surround the monastery, which is a sea of peach blossoms in late spring and early summer.
