Recent research shows that 70 per cent of the rare Tibetan antelope found in the world today live in Chang Tang, the far northwest of Tibet.
The research, carried out by domestic and overseas wildlife experts reveals that Chang Tang Nature Preserve, the world's biggest terrestrial ecological preserve established in early 1990s, provides an ideal habitat for the valuable Tibetan antelope.
Experts also said current effective protection measures have allowed the number of Tibetan antelope in the autonomous region to gradually increase, to around 100,000, reports Xinhua News Agency.
The Tibetan antelope was hunted almost to the verge of extinction to satisfy demand for its highly prized fleece, used to make shahtoosh wool.
