Websites Passionate to Save Chirus

No limits of time and space, no discrimination of age and class, with all its advantages, the Internet is playing an active role in salvaging the chirus. "Saving the Chirus!A Call from Hoh Xil," a special homepage on Greener Beijing.com, has been launched by volunteers to rescue this rare animal.
Hu Jia is a member of the Friends of Nature, and a "veteran" young environmental protection volunteer. Every day, he sends via E-mail the latest news from Hoh Xil to numerous people who care about the fate of the chirus.
"At 3 o'clock p.m. on February 21, after a long and hard trek the Wild Yak Team returned in triumph having captured 6 suspects with 800-plus chirus hides, three jeeps and one lorry;"
"Starting from lunar New Year, a campaign to donate money for the Wild Yak Team is being held in Tianjin. Now the sum has exceeded 40,000 yuan;"
"In the studio of Tianjin Cable TV reporters are producing a special program on protecting chirus."
The chirus have brought strange people together and made them close friends. Once Hu Jia got to know another volunteer in Nanjing, Yang Yang, and asked him for help in translating materials for the under-construction Chirus.com. Soon Hu received reams of well-translated papers. After a long time, Hu Jia learned that Yang Yang was out of work but still working voluntarily for environmental protection. Hu Jia said that since he joined the movement to protect the chirus, he had lost count of the people and events that had touched him deeply.
Early this year, a donation was sent to Golmud from the Chinese Nature Protection Alliance in New York. The money was for the Wild Yak Team to cover their patrol costs and their salaries. But the remittance would take 45 days. Meanwhile, the Alliance got another US $10,000 from a generous American banker. How to send the money to Golmud in the fastest way? Du Xinxin in New York turned to her friend Li Yongping in Changsha. Li scraped together 86,000 yuan and immediately remitted it to Golmud. During the short six hours, friends in Beijing and Changsha exchanged dozens of calls and faxes. For these people, though some have never met each other," to save chirus" is strong enough for them to offer a helping hand without any hesitation.
Now "Saving the Chirus! A Call from Hoh Xil" has appeared on a series of Chinese websites: Sina.com, Eastnet.com, cww.com, fanso.com, focus.com, cseek.com and tibetwin.com. With the magic Internet, volunteers are going to extend their "salvage net for the chirus" to more people.
