Construction of Qinghai-Tibet Railway in Sound Progress The
chief of the country's railway system has labelled the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet
railway line as being sound in progress. Railway Minister Fu Zhihuan made
the remark after his inspection tour this month. He said that thanks to
the efforts of some 10,000 builders the foundation has been laid for the further
construction of the Ge'ermu-Wangkun section of the railway line with the laying
of rail tracks expected in November next year. A total of 7.54 million
cubic meters of filling materials has been used to complete the embankment of
the railway line from Ge'ermu to Wangkun. Another filling of 990,000 cubic meters
has been used to embank the railway stations along the line of this section. The
new Qinghai-Tibet railway line, measuring 1,080 kilometers, started construction
at both ends in June this year and expected to complete in six years time. October
