Construction of Qinghai-Tibet Railway in Sound Progress

The chief of the country's railway system has labelled the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet railway line as being sound in progress.

Railway Minister Fu Zhihuan made the remark after his inspection tour this month.

He said that thanks to the efforts of some 10,000 builders the foundation has been laid for the further construction of the Ge'ermu-Wangkun section of the railway line with the laying of rail tracks expected in November next year.

A total of 7.54 million cubic meters of filling materials has been used to complete the embankment of the railway line from Ge'ermu to Wangkun. Another filling of 990,000 cubic meters has been used to embank the railway stations along the line of this section.

The new Qinghai-Tibet railway line, measuring 1,080 kilometers, started construction at both ends in June this year and expected to complete in six years time.
