Special Measures at Qinghai-Tibet Railway Construction Sites

Various special measures have been taken at the Qinghai-Tibet railway construction sites, all aimed at keeping the sites warm so as to guarantee the construction quality.

Electrical boilers are being used to pre-heat the water that is used to mix the cement and sand; warm-air blowers are being used at the entrance of tunnels to keep the cold air outside the tunnels and to warm up the air inside; specially-designed covers are being used to shield the newly-laid reinforced cement; various formulas are being used to help the cement to solidify and prevent the cement from freezing.

These special measures have to be taken as temperature has already plummeted to 15 degrees Celsius below zero and the continuous construction still needs to be continued until the end of the month before it can be stopped for the winter season.
