Prospects for the Medical and Health
Undertakings of Tibet
Although great development has been made in Tibet's medical and
health work, there are still difficulties and problems such as shortage
of funds, backwardness of grass-roots medical units in the farming
and pasture lands, low medical level of the medical personnel, lack
of medical backbones, the arduous task of disease prevention and
cure. These all hinders the medical and health development of Tibet.
in light with this situation, the related departments in Tibet
have worked out the overall plan for the 1996-2000 period and the
year of 2010. According to the plan, a hygiene service system, including
medical preventive care, health protection, and hygiene supervision,
will be established to the needs of the people and socioeconomic
development in Tibet. At that time people will enjoy necessary hygiene
care and services. Therefore, the health condition of people in
Tibet will improve.
In Tibet, the average life span in 2000 is expected to reach
67 fears; the year of 2010,69-70 fears; infant mortality in 2000
and 2010 will decrease by one-- third and one-- fourth than that
in 1990 and 2000 respectively; the mortality of infants less than
five years old in 2000 and 2010 will see a drop of one-- third and
one-- fifth from that in 1990 and that in 2000 respectively; the
death rate of women in childbirth in 2000 and 2010 will drop by
one half and one-- third from that in 1990 and 2010 respectively.
