Treasure of Panchen Erdeni, Qing Dynasty,silver seal with an imperial knob, 10.8 cm high, each side: 12.6 cm

This silver seal was bestowed upon the Sixth Panchen Blo-bzang-dpal-ldan-ye-shes by Qing Emperor Qianlong (Gaozong). In 1765, the Sixth Panchen Lama initiated the Eighth Dalai Lama into monkshood. Next year, Emperor Qianling issued an edict of praise, bestowing upon the Sixth Panchen Lama a gold ablum (thirteen pages, two hundred and thirty liang of gold) and a gold seal (two hundred and eight liang of gold). In 1777, the Qing Government issued an order, saying: "Emperor believes in Buddhism and hopes to bring benefits to all people. Now he wants to see Buddha with his own eyes." The Sixth Panchen Lama was called to pay homage to Emperor in Beijing.
