the Great Chan Master Who Assists State Affairs and
Disseminates Buddhism, Republic of China,copper seal
with a straight knob, 12 cm high, each side: 8.8 cm
long
This is a seal bestowed
upon Living Buddha Rwa-sgreng by the National Government.
The seal inscriptions read: "Seal of Living Buddha
Rwa-sgreng, the Great Chan Master Who Assists State
Affairs and Disseminates Buddhism". And its back
bears the same inscriptions and the words "Made
by the Printing and Casting Bureau in the eleventh
month of the twenty-fourth year of the Republic of
China." In 1935, the National Government conferred
upon Living Buddha Rwa-sgren Thub-bstan-vjam-dpal-ye-shes
the title of "Great Chan Master Who Assists State
Affairs and Disseminates Buddhism". The National
Government issued an order, saying: "Rwa-sgreng
Hutuktu disseminated Buddhism and was famous for his
service. After the death of Dalai Lama, he administered
political and religious affairs over Tibet. He succeeded
in satisfying the Central Government and pacifying
the localities and obtained great achievements. Therefore,
the title of 'Great Chan Master Who Assists State
Affairs and Disseminates Buddhism' is conferred upon
him in his honor."
